Jefferson Co., PA (WJAC) — Police say a Pittsburgh defense attorney has been charged in Jefferson County after he allegedly solicited sex from what he believed was a 15-year-old girl. Police say that starting in October, 33-year-old Paul Luvara, of Bridgeville, began sending sexually explicit messages to the group 814 Pred Hunters, which was posing as the teenager. In the messages, Luvara allegedly tells the “girl” about a sexual interaction he had with a 14-year-old and states that he wants to have sex with her before she turns 16.
FRACKVILLE, SCHUYLKILL CO. (WOLF) — A former manager of the State Correctional Institution in Frackville has been charged with sexual assault following allegations of an affair with an inmate. Jennifer Newberry, 48, of Frackville, was charged with institutional sexual assault, evidence tampering and related contraband charges after investigators said they discovered an affair between her and an inmate assigned to her. PITTSBURGH (WJAC) — According to NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly signing free-agent wide-receiver Scotty Miller to a one-year deal. The 26-year-old most recently played for the Atlanta Falcons, and will be reunited with Arthur Smith, who has taken over as the Steelers' new offensive coordinator. Miller was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2019 and spent four seasons with them. He has played in 67 career games, recording 85 catches, for over 1,000 total yards and 6 touchdowns.
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (WJAC/KABB) — A Nanty Glo native was killed in an accident, while on his way to work for his second day on the job as a school resource officer in Texas. Matthew Krupa, 27, died after the crash Thursday, according to our sister station KABB-TV. Krupa had started his new role with the North East Independent School District the day before the accident. His wife, Emylee, told KABB that those who know him best said the only thing he loved more than being a police officer was his family, which includes 10-month-old daughter Mayleigh.
Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — 1st Summit Arena announced this week that country music singer Scotty McCreery is bringing his act to downtown Johnstown next March. McCreery’s career kicked off after he won the tenth season of American Idol in May of 2011. His upcoming solo tour features special guests Anne Wilson and Noah Hicks. One of the people instrumental in bringing the country act to Johnstown is George Couri, a Johnstown native who now runs an artist management company and represents McCreery.

(TND) — Apparently one of those license plate readers in Florida solved another crime. “I observed a silver vehicle that matched the description of a stolen vehicle that activated a license plate reader earlier in the evening,” a police officer wrote in the arrest report, last Wednesday, May 8.The Toyota Avalon was at a convenience store parking lot and the apparent driver was inside, buying lottery tickets. “I approached the male wearing a red shirt and dark pants,” the report said, “and advised that I needed to speak with him and was detained immediately.

SILVER SPRING, Md. (WJLA) — There has been an uptick of bear sightings in parts of Maryland, according to wildlife officials. Last week, Montgomery Parks shared a photo of a recent bear sighting, captured on a Ring doorbell camera walking through a front yard in Germantown. It came with a warning: bear season. In the past week, at least three bear sightings have been reported in the county -- in the Sligo Creek area of Silver Spring, another near the Northwest Golf course off of Layhill Road, and in Boyds.
PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Steelers said Wednesday that they have signed first-round draft pick T.J. Watt to a four-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed. Watt, 6 feet 4 inches tall and 252 pounds, was the 30th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. He played collegiate football at the University of Wisconsin.
