(WJAC) — Experts say breakfast is the most important meal of the day and now, nearly two million Pennsylvania students are able to get free breakfast thanks to Governor Wolf's new Universal Free School Breakfast Program that started this week. Vonda Ramp a State Director for the Child Nutrition Programs in the PA Dept. of Education says, “Everybody qualifies, everybody’s eating and its good for everybody”. Ramp says she is very excited about the new program and “there are 3,423 schools that participate in the school lunch program and there are 3,170 of those schools that participate in the school breakfast program.

WJAC — A former team doctor for the Penn State football team accused head coach James Franklin of trying to influence the doctor's decisions on when to medically clear injured players to allow them to resume playing. Dr. Scott Lynch, in a lawsuit filed in Dauphin County Court, also names Penn State Athletic Director Sandy Barbour, Penn State Health and the Penn State Hershey Medical Center as defendants. Lynch claims Franklin obstructed regulations dealing with the medical management of student-athletes.
PITTSBURGH — Bruno Mars has met the man he's nicknamed after: former pro wrestling champion Bruno Sammartino. The two met Tuesday night when the pop singing sensation's 24K Magic World Tour stopped in Pittsburgh. Sammartino heard through friends that Mars, born Peter Gene Hernandez, was nicknamed "Bruno" by his father because he was a "chunky" baby. The wrestling legend — now 81 — was about 275 pounds in his prime and the favorite wrestler of Mars' father.
Jefferson Co., PA (WJAC) — State police in Punxsutawney say a Corsica man is facing charges after being accused of abandoning two dogs at a home in Union Township. Troopers say in August, investigators received multiple complaints about the two animals being left outside at a home along Howe Road. Authorities say the reported owner of the dogs, 26-year-old Brandon Geer, had allegedly "moved out" of the home several weeks prior and never returned to check on them.
Cambria County, Pa. (WJAC) — For 150 years the Greater Johnstown YMCA has been a part of the community, but staff are worried they won’t be in Johnstown for 150 more. After closing for nearly four months because of the COVID-19 pandemic, CEO Shawn Sebring, says only half of the YMCA’s members have returned. ”What they’ve been telling us is many of them are working from home so they’re not working downtown and the YMCA is not the most convenient place for them to exercise now.
PITTSBURGH (WJAC) — The National Hockey Leagueannounced Wednesday that the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Boston Bruins will faceoff in the 2023 Winter Classic. The annual outdoor game will be played on January 2 at Fenway Park in Boston. Boston is 3-1 in franchise history in outdoor games, while Pittsburgh holds an outdoor game record of 2-2-1. Additional details about the 2023 Winter Classic, including ticket information, will be announced at a later date.
PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh football is going to play in a bowl game. The Panthers are scheduled to face off against Stanford in the Hyundai Sun Bowl.
