That’s one of the messages coming from a statewide conference of industry experts at Penn State this week. Those who enjoy wine already know that in Pennsylvania, its popularity is growing. “Today was really great. We unveiled our 2023 economic impact study, and the Pennsylvania industry now contributes one point eight billion dollars, up from one point four billion, to the Commonwealth.
WPXI-TV news anchor David Johnson announced in a Facebook post that both of his wife’s parents have died of the coronavirus. Johnson said the two died within hours of each other at a Florida hospital. “It's recently been said that eventually we'll all be touched in some way by the Coronovirus,” Johnson said. “Last night, it happened to my family.” Johnson said that his father-in-law contracted the virus nearly two weeks ago while his mother-in-law only recently contracted it.
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — More than 10,000 customers in Cambria County lost power as severe thunderstorms rolled through the region Wednesday evening, according to Penelec. According to Penelec, 10,422 customers in Cambria County were without power just before 5:30 p.m. Penelec says 3,280 outages were reported in Johnstown City, and another 1,188 were reported in East Taylor Township. Severe thunderstorms rolled through Wednesday evening knocking down numerous trees in its path.
Bedford County, PA (WJAC) — Authorities announced Tuesday that a third person has been charged in connection to an alleged "murder-for-hire" and arson plot in Bedford County. Last week, police arrested 43-year-old Heather Dibert after investigators say she allegedly hired a man in an attempt to kill her wife and her wife's family. Troopers say Dibert reportedly offered money and drugs to 34-year-old Zachery Sellers, of Lewistown, in exchange for him burning down a home in Napier Township where her wife was staying with family members.
A man who said he was sexually assaulted by former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky has been arrested in Massachusetts for armed assault with attempt to murder. Boston police said in a news release that Anthony Spinelli, 44, of Leominster, Massachusetts, stabbed a man Tuesday afternoon after getting into an argument with him. The man, who Spinelli knew, suffered life-threatening injuries, but is expected to survive, police said. Spinelli is being held on $1 million bail.
TRUCKEE, Calif. (News 4 & Fox 11) — The mountains win again and they are in fact blue. A semi-truck carrying cases of Coors Light beer overturned on I-80 in Placer County early Monday morning, scattering silver cans across the roadway, according to the California Highway Patrol. All westbound traffic was rerouted was temporarily rerouted onto Rainbow Road but one lane of traffic has since reopened. CHP said a driver and passenger were in the truck when it overturned and both suffered minor injuries.
WASHINGTON (TND) — Newly released video from Chester County Prison in Pennsylvania shows a murder convict scaling a wall to escape the facility. The footage was made public Wednesday, which marked seven days since 34-year-old Danelo Cavalcante has been at large. He escaped on August 31 shortly after 8:50 a.m. In the video, Cavalcante is seen standing near a doorway between two walls in the prison's outdoor exercise yard. He then starts crab-walking between the two walls, his hands on one wall and his feet on the other, while parallel to the ground.
TYRONE - The Tyrone Armory is getting a facelift with new owners, a new floor and a new look inside. But the outside of the building will remain the same. "The Armory has such a history, it goes back until 1912. Nobody wanted to see it go," said Jim Kilmartin, of Joshua House, the nonprofit renovating the building. Joshua House's mission focuses on the youth of the area, so leaders decided to transform the unused building into a community recreation center.
COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — The jury in Alex Murdaugh's murder trial visited his family's former home in South Carolina this week, seeing firsthand where Murdaugh allegedly killed his wife, Maggie, and adult son, Paul. As closing arguments begin in the trial, WCIV looked into the status of that property. As of Wednesday, it's still under contract to be sold. But the sale hasn't been finalized.
